KowaKawa Halloween: Universal Studios Japan

ADAPTIVE BRAND TRANSLATION & LOCALIZATION

Designed a localized, seasonal visual overlay for Universal Studios Japan’s 2019 Halloween event. The objective was to introduce a highly specific thematic concept—”KowaKawa” (a cultural blend of “scary” and “cute”)—while seamlessly integrating with the park’s permanent architecture.

  • Legacy Integration: Built a temporary visual layer designed to function in conjunction with the park’s existing “Wonderland” signage, ensuring the seasonal update didn’t clash with the established environment.
  • Targeted Localization: Balanced conflicting brand constraints (scary vs. cute) to deliver an accessible, engaging design tailored specifically for a younger demographic.
